Safety is the major concern of our business.
Thanks to our expertise, we have created a Product Stewardship program aimed at developing at all levels, including the interface with our customers' sites, a response to the highest requirements in terms of risk management and safety.
As part of its Product Stewardship approach, Yara carries out inspections of our customers' ammonia unloading stations and ammonia storage sites. In this way, we contribute together with you to improving the safety conditions for the unloading of hazardous materials.
Emergency Preparedness
Yara has chosen to collaborate with RICARDO to manage emergency situations related to anhydrous ammonia leaks during road and rail transport, as well as during unloading operations at its customers' sites.
In the event of a proven incident, Yara and Ricardo will be able to quickly mobilise human and technical resources to go to the intervention site and secure the situation in coordination with the authorities and/or our customers.

Applications
Industrial Applications of Ammonia
The physicochemical properties of ammonia make it extremely useful in many industries. Ammonia finds its main outlet in the nitrogen fertilizer industry, which is why Yara has a strong presence in this product. However, ammonia is the basis for many other industrial applications whose final products surround our daily lives.
Yara has a strong presence in the industrial markets using ammonia and supports its customers on a daily basis by meeting their specific needs. Thus, Yara offers its customers:
Anhydrous ammonia.
Alkali or ammonia 20.5% - 32 %.
Among the common uses for manufacturers are:
• Acrylonitrile - intermediate for the production of polymers used in the manufacture of plastics (ABS), mainly for the automotive and textile industries.
• Adiponitrile-intermediate of Nylon-66 chemistry such as artificial fibers, nylon yarns and plastic parts for automobiles (airbags, tires).
• Amines – one of the most widespread uses of ammonia, applications in several sectors. including cosmetics, the pharmaceutical sector and the production of detergents.
• Amino acids – animal nutrition.
• Caprolactam – intermediate in the manufacture of plastics (including nylon) and in the manufacture of polyurethane, resins and paints.
• Methyl methacrylate – used in electronics, construction materials, automotive manufacturing.

Ammonia is a reagent for the reduction of nitrogen oxide emissions.
The use of aqueous ammonia solution is widespread in the context of NOx (nitrogen oxide) reduction. Yara is a major player in the control of NOx by selective non-catalytic reduction with more than 200 installations at our customers' sites around the world. Packaging & Transport
Ammonia
It is in the form of a liquefied gas that needs to be kept at -33°C under atmospheric pressure. Its transport requires specific tanks, resistant to pressure, and in compliance with local legislation, which can be done by:

When ammonia in the form of a gas is diluted in water, the product remains under pressure with vapour fumes. Its transport therefore requires specific tanks that are resistant to pressure and comply with local legislation. The product can be delivered in:

Our role is to meet customer demand for bulk deliveries by wagons or full tankers only. Of course, our products are available in specific packaging from our distributors.
